Money Talks for Teens

Money TalksTeenagers have access to and spend a great deal of money each year. However, their spending behaviors and limited understanding of money responsibilities promote behaviors that may lead to costly mistakes. By practicing sound money management skills today, teens can learn healthy habits for a secure financial future. Money Talks for Teens is a money management curriculum aimed at 14-18 year olds, and taught by local finance professionals who volunteer their time at local high schools. The materials, developed by a team of University of California Cooperative Extension specialists, provide teens with accurate, non-biased information and hands-on experiences in financial literacy, tools that young people can learn and take with them into early adulthood and through life.

Volunteers work in teams, going to their assigned class for five unique sessions. Although a background in finance or banking is helpful, volunteers need no prior experience. To learn more or to get involved, please contact Kara Edwall at (805) 541-1234 ext. 16 or kedwall@unitedwayslo.org. To visit the Money Talks for Teens website, click here.
