United Way of San Luis Obispo County
Apply
for Funds
United Way of SLO
County administers two fundraising campaigns each year: a Community Campaign,
and a California State Employees Charitable Campaign (CSECC or State Campaign)
for State employees located in SLO County. SLO County nonprofit agencies
may apply to and/or receive funds through each campaign, although the
procedures for participation are different.
Community
Campaign
United Way volunteers and staff each year raise funds directly from individuals,
businesses and organizations, and from employees of local businesses and
government agencies through workplace campaigns. Funds raised are invested
back into the community where the need is greatest, as determined by United
Way of SLO County board members, volunteers and staff, or as designated
by donors to one or more United Way Partner Agencies or any other qualified
tax-exempt nonprofit agency. To become a Partner Agency, an organization
must have received a United Way of SLO County Community Impact Fund grant
and be in good standing with the organization.
How
to Apply for a Community Impact Fund Grant
State Campaign
United Way of SLO County annually applies for the opportunity to manage
the CSECC on behalf of State employees in SLO County. All State employees
in the county have the right to contribute or not to contribute through
the State Campaign. Employees may designate to organizations of their
choice as listed in the annual campaign brochure or they may designate
a qualified nonprofit agency not listed, also known as a "write-in."
All charities listed in the brochure apply for participation in the State
brochure through the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims
Board, which oversees the State Campaign. For an organization to qualify
for participation in the local State Campaign, it must meet the various
requirements detailed in the State application as a local unaffiliated
organization or as a federation of agencies. To qualify as an affiliated
agency of United Way of SLO County's federation, it must have received
a Community Impact Fund grant from, and be an agency in good standing
with, United Way of SLO County, in addition to meeting the requirements
of a State unaffiliated organization. The process usually begins in early
January of the solicitation year. The solicitation of State employees
occurs each fall. Applications, qualifications and other requirements
