August 2, 2015 at Kohl's Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo
Children and youth in need, grades K-12, are given a $100 gift card and paired with a community volunteer who helps them shop for back-to-school clothes.
Volunteers are needed to help at both the Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo events. We need help with event set up, check in, and shopping with children*. Bilingual and/or male shoppers are always in demand! Sign up online at VolunteerSLO.org/kidspree.
*Volunteer shoppers must be fingerprinted ("LiveScan") for KidSpree prior to the event. (Unfortunately, LiveScan results from other organizations cannot be accepted.) Preferred appointments can be made at the SLO County YMCA, located at 1020 Southwood Drive in San Luis Obispo, or the Paso Robles Police Department, 900 Park Street in Paso Robles.

We ask the support of local agencies in the county to recommend children from among their clients who are most in need. Should a family call our office to participate we will refer them to an agency in their community, and ask that the agency consider them for recommendation to the event. We do this to ensure that the family be made aware of other services that might be available to them beyond KidSpree. Often this may be a first call for help, but there may be many other ways that the family can receive assistance. Therefore it is the agency that determines which children are recommended to participate in the event. However, due to the large number of recommendations received and limited funds and store hours, only a portion of those recommended can be selected.
Before making a nomination, all agency representatives must read the nomination FAQ.
