We are able to do our good work because of the partners that help us make it happen. We work with local and national businesses, nonprofits and collaborative groups to bring positive changes to SLO County, and are always interested in new partners or new ways to make our existing partnerships more successful. Business

We understand that local businesses want to make a difference right here in their community and United Way can help. There are many opportunities for businesses to help build a stronger, healthier, more compassionate community by partnering with United Way of SLO County. Whether it is fundraising, advocating or volunteering for the greater good, local businesses and their employees can be part of creating long-lasting changes in our community.

Ways for your business and its leaders to partner with United Way of SLO County and help local nonprofits include:

  • Conduct an Employee Workplace Campaign
  • Donate to United Way via corporate gifts, grants or scholarships
  • Hold a special fundraising activity
  • Give an in-kind donation of equipment, items or services
  • Donate your professional time and expertise at a local meeting, conference or retreat

Collaborative Groups

United Way of SLO County is proud to support local collaboratives that are working to make San Luis Obispo a better place to live, including:

ACTION for Healthy Communities publishes reports on the quality of life in SLO County approximately every two years. As a collaborative of many local public and private organizations, ACTION sets broad goals for the community in the areas of basic needs, the economy, education, health, our natural environment, public safety and the social environment. The Adult Services Policy Council works together to meet the health and human service needs of adults and seniors by providing leadership to all agencies, programs and consumer groups serving adults and seniors; and by providing leadership in the development of comprehensive programs for adults and seniors who utilize publicly funded health and human services.

The Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens-Area Agency on Aging is responsible for allocating federal and state dollars to local agencies to insure that supportive, nutrition and health promotion services are available to older adults in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.

The San Luis Obispo County Child Care Planning Council seeks to work collaboratively with families, businesses, public education, human service providers, early care and education professionals, policy makers, civic organizations and others to create broad-based awareness on early care, education needs and issues in San Luis Obispo County.

The Children’s Health Initiative of San Luis Obispo County to provide a one-step application process to ensure that every eligible child is enrolled in a health care coverage plan through existing state-funded insurance programs, and to provide Healthy Kids, a comprehensive health insurance product to serve families who do not qualify for state health insurance programs.

The Children’s Services Network envisions safe and healthy children, youth and families learning and growing to their full potential in supportive communities; the collaborative encourages the development and implementation of interactions, programs and services that are collaborative, family-centered, strength-based, needs-driven, solution-oriented and community-based.

First 5 San Luis Obispo County promotes a community in which every child will thrive in supportive, nurturing and loving environments, enter school healthy and ready to learn, develop resilience and become productive, well-adjusted members of society. Recognizing the critical nature of early brain development, the Children and Families Commission of SLO County—convened by First 5—identifies and allocates funds for programs and services that enhance early childhood development.

The Nonprofit Collaboration Forum is a conference for local nonprofits to learn about and share relevant information and best practices. It is organized by a steering committee comprised of volunteers from nonprofit organizations, businesses and government; all nonprofit professionals, board members and volunteers are encouraged to attend the annual event.

San Luis Obispo County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (SLOVOAD) is a humanitarian association of independent voluntary organizations that may be active in phases of a disaster. SLOVOAD fosters efficient, streamlined service delivery to people affected by disaster, while eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort, through cooperation in the four phases of disaster: preparation, response, recovery and mitigation.
