The Second Golden State Stimulus is an opportunity for those who missed the first stimulus to receive the payment.

Per the State of California Franchise Tax Board, to qualify for the second Golden State Stimulus you must:

 

  • Have filed your 2020 taxes
  • Have a California Adjusted Gross Income (CA AGI) of $1 to $75,000. For this information refer to:
    • Line 17 on Form 540
    • Line 16 on Form 540 2EZ
  • Have wages $75,000 or less
  • Be a California resident for more than half of the 2020 tax year
  • Be a California resident on the date payment is issued
  • Cannot be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer
    • A dependent is a qualifying child or qualifying relative. Go to FTB Publication 1540 for more information about a qualifying child and qualifying relative

To make sure you receive your payment, file your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021.

If you don’t qualify for GSS II, you may qualify for GSS I.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have filed your 2020 taxes by October 15, 2021
  • Be either:
    • A CalEITC recipient
    • An ITIN filer who made $75,000 or less (total CA AGI)
  • Live in California for more than half of the 2020 tax year
  • Be a California resident on the date payment is issued
  • Not be eligible to be claimed as a dependent

To qualify for CalEITC, you must:

  • Have taxable earned income up to $30,000
  • Not use “married/RDP filing separately” if married or RDP
  • Meet all other qualifications

If you have already filed and want to know if you received CalEITC, check line 75 on your California Form 540 and see if you received the California Earned Income Tax Credit.

If you filed your tax return between January 1, 2021 and March 1, 2021:

You will receive your stimulus payment beginning after April 15, 2021.

  • Direct deposits: Allow up to 2 weeks
  • Paper checks: Allow up to 4 to 6 weeks for mailing

If you filed your tax return between March 2, 2021 and April 23, 2021:

You will receive your stimulus payment beginning after May 1.

  • Direct deposits: Allow up to 2 weeks
  • Paper checks: Allow up to 4 to 6 weeks for mailing

If you file your tax return after April 23, 2021:

  • Direct deposits: Allow up to 45 days after your return has processed
  • Paper checks: Allow up to 60 days after your return has processed

Some payments may need extra time to process for accuracy and completeness.

California Department of Social Services is offering a $600 grant to recipients of SSI, CalWORKS, CalFresh, and CAPI. This is a separate program than the Golden State Stimulus.

Recent California legislation authorized a one-time supplemental SSP payment in the amount of $600 to SSI/SSP recipients to provide relief from hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Payments in the amount of $600 will be automatically mailed out based on zip code. Recipients can expect to receive their payment based on the following schedule:
