From 1997 to 2015, United Way of San Luis Obispo County clothed local children with our back-to-school shopping event, KidSpree. Thanks to the generosity of stores like Kohl’s and Mervyn’s, and the support of donors and volunteers like you, we have sent 3,000 children back to school with new clothing and confidence.

United Way of San Luis Obispo County has been realigning our strategy to make a greater impact on SLO County. We’re focusing our efforts on programs that will help youth develop the skills needed to become active participants in our community: reading on grade level, graduating on time, being physically and mentally well, and are self-sufficient and financially stable.

As part of this realignment, we are strengthening many of our programs, but also stepping back from others. In as much, United Way will not be hosting KidSpree as we have in the past.

Don’t worry, though, our kids will be sent back-to-school with the tools they need to succeed!

•    Our Annual Stuff the Bus, in partnership with KSBY, is held every August. Each year, we collect thousands of dollars of new supplies for local schools. We will host sites across SLO County, and would love your participation! Sign up to volunteer with your coworkers, family and friends, or host a small donation site at your place of business.

•    If you love to “shop ‘til you drop” and want to continue volunteering as a shopper, we have partnered with another organization to continue the KidSpree legacy. Operation School Bell still offers this service, year round, to local children.
